For the musical voyage between Paris and Moscow, the Goldberg Trio is most eclectic. In effect, we find in this recording the String Trio in B minor by Sergueï Ivanovitch Taneïev (1856-1915) that Tchaikovsky considered as “a remarkable figure in the music world,” the Trio for Violin, Viola, and Cello by Jean Françaix (1912-1997) who declared “I am most attracted towards chamber music because it is the most demanding, and also the most immediately musical, that is without intermediaries. It is music, without sorcery,” the String Trio in G major Op.53 by Josephy Haydn (1732-1809), Intermezzo by Zoltan Kodaly (1882-1967), the String Trio (never finished) in B major D.471 by Franz Schubert (1797-1828), Tanz de Hans Krasa (1899-1944) and Aubade by George Enescu (1881-1955), a work written by a young man of eighteen. The Goldberg Trio (Liza Kerob on the violin, Federico Hood on the viola, and Thierry Amada on the cello) here sign their third album. It assembles “seven works that have accompanied us for years. We have chosen them because they are splendid works that go together, and allow us as a trio to express all the facets of our playing.” All here is placed under the sign of emotional beauty, that of playing, that of engagement, that of mastering, that of sound, and finally that of exemplary musicians whom we will follow with attention and passion.
