Ce troisième volume de la série « réminiscences » du label Praga Digitals consacré au pianiste italien Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli regroupe un récital Chopin avec la Sonate N°2, La Ballade N°1, la Valse N°17 ainsi que la Fantaisie Op.49, et le Concerto pour piano N°4 en sol mineur Op.40 de Serge Rachmaninov avec le Philharmonia de Londres que dirige Ettore Gracis. Cet ultime concerto, précise André Lischke « marqué des premières influences subies par le compositeur au contact de la musique occidentale du XXème siècle, est resté le mal-aimé de la série en raison d’une certaine disparité des idées et de l’intermittence du souffle dont la continuité avait assuré le succès des deux concertos précédents ». La perfection du jeu pianistique d’Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli fait ici merveille en offrant ni plus ni moins que des références absolues. Avis aux amateurs…

This third volume of the “Reminiscences” series from the label Praga Digitals is devoted to the Italian pianist Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli and unites a Chopin recital that includes the Sonata N°2, the Ballade N°1, the Waltz N°17, as well as the Fantasy Op.49, along with the Concerto for Piano N°4 in G minor Op.40 by Serge Rachmaninov with the London Philharmonia that Ettore Gracis conducts. This ultimate concerto, states André Lischke, “reflecting the first influence of 20th century Western music on the composer, has remained the least popular of the series because of a certain disparity of ideas and intermittent inspiration of which the two earlier concertos did not suffer.” Arturo Bennedetti Michelangeli’s pianistic perfection here is a wonder, providing nothing less than an absolute reference. Music lovers take note.
