Disons-le d’emblée, c’est une des plus belles surprises musicales de cette fin d’année que nous découvrons avec cet enregistrement consacré à deux grandes figures de la musique pour piano. Tout d’abord Isaac Albéniz (1860-1909) avec sa "Suite Espagnole N°1" Op.47 se déclinant en huit numéros sur des airs populaires comme "Granada", "Sevilla", "Cataluna", "Cadiz", "Asturias", "Aragon", "Castilla" et "Cuba". Car, dans ses œuvres pianistiques, Isaac Albéniz "révèle la richesse d’une écriture tout autre que de pure virtuosité : d’une part, les innovations dans la technique y sont notables (attaques du clavier, position des mains, doigtés), et influenceront maints compositeurs contemporains ; d’autre part, le souci des sonorités individualisées, des couleurs, d’une harmonie complexe et raffinée, et jusqu’à l’esprit rhapsodique de ses œuvres qui le placent dans la descendance d’un Liszt" (François-René Tranchefort). Franz Liszt (1811-1886), justement, que nous retrouvons dans la seconde partie du CD, avec "Trois études de concert" et "Trois sonnets de Pétrarque". La pianiste, Elodie Vignon, possède pleinement le sens des respirations, larges, envoûtantes, au sein desquelles, son discours musical délivre sans peine une profondeur idoine. Bref, une merveille.

Let it be said from the start, this is one of the best musical surprises of late 2021 that we discover with this recording devoted to two great figures of piano music. First of all, Isaac Albéniz (1860-1909) with his “Spanish Suite Nº1” Op.47 which is made up of eight numbers on popular airs such as “Granada,” “Sevilla,” “Cataluna,” “Cadiz,” “Asturias,” “Aragon,” “Castilla” and “Cuba.” For, in his piano works, Isaac Albéniz “reveals the richness of writing that is anything but pure virtuosity: on the one hand, technical innovations are notable (keyboard stroke, hand position, fingering), and would influence many contemporary composers; on the other hand, the attention to individualized tones, colors, complex and refined harmony, as well as the rhapsodic spirit of these works that places it in the lineage of Liszt” (François-René Tranchefort). Franz Liszt (1811-1886) who we find in the second part of the CD, with “Three Concert Studies” and “Three Sonnets by Petrarch.” The pianist, Elodie Vignon, fully possesses the sense of respirations, large, captivating, at the heart of which her musical discourse delivers fitting depth effortlessly. In short, a wonder.
