Joseph Haydn

Les Trois Derniers Quatuors à Cordes

Prazak Quartet

Praga Digitals PRD 250 420, HM PIAS

Here is a double resurrection. That of a label, Praga Digitals, missing from the catalogues since 2018, the year of the death of its founder, Pierre-Emile Barbier, great advocate of the SACD (see on the lead page of Opus HD Magazine the interview of October 10, 2006), and that of a string quartet, the Prazak Quartet, in its new iteration, with violinists Jana Vonaskova, Marie Fuxova, the violists Josef Kluson and the cellist Jonas Krejii. Today, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the label, taken over by Tribeca, the SACD is, unfortunately, out of fashion. It is therefore a first CD that has just been released, devoted to Joseph Haydn, soon to be followed by a box-set of 30 CDs and a digitalization with remastering of the whole catalogue by 2023. “Eager to continue to transmit the love of good sound that Pierre-Emile Barbier, with his catalogue, left behind, Nicolas Bartholomée, founder of Little Tribeca, aspires to renew the audio savoir-faire, the collaboration with historical artists, the defense of audacious repertoires.” Joseph Haydn then, to begin with, with here his three last string quartets, the Quartet in G major Op.77 Nº1, the Quartet in F major Op.77 Nº2, and the unfinished Quartet Op.103. In these works, our four musicians captivate us by narrative power and remarkable presence, offering a musical discourse that is a true incarnation, with palpable emotion. In short, here is a master stroke that augurs well for this new adventure.
